Quarterly Resiliency Forecast-Fall 2025
The Risks We’re Watching — and What You Can Do About Them
The year may be winding down, but risks aren’t taking a break. In fact, three of them, cyber threats, supply chain disruptions, and the spread of disinformation, are showing up more often and in more connected ways than before. They aren’t new, but their speed and interconnectedness make them more urgent than ever. For businesses and organizations, this means bigger challenges and less room to wait. That’s why we’re highlighting them now — and sharing what you can do about each one.
Risk 1: Cyber Threats
Over the past few months, we’ve seen cyber attackers grow increasingly sophisticated. Ransomware campaigns now use advanced social engineering, phishing emails are harder to spot, and supply chain attacks exploit vendors as backdoors into larger organizations. Smaller businesses are also being targeted as stepping stones to bigger ones, and regulatory requirements around data protection are becoming more stringent. A successful attack doesn’t just cost money—it can halt operations, erode customer trust, and trigger legal or regulatory fallout.
How to Prepare & Mitigate The best defense is a mix of prevention and resilience. Start with regular risk assessments to identify critical systems and weak points. Apply “zero trust” principles—limit user privileges, segment networks, and enforce strong identity management. Because prevention isn’t foolproof, test your incident response plans with tabletop exercises, and ensure reliable, off-site backups are in place. Stay current on regulatory requirements, and invest in ongoing cyber awareness training for staff. Finally, vet your third-party vendors for strong cyber hygiene—your risk is tied to theirs.

Risk 2: Supply Chain Disruptions
Global supply chains continue to feel the strain of overlapping challenges: geopolitical conflicts, climate-related disasters, labor shortages, and transportation delays. Lean, just-in-time models leave little room for error, and even one missing component can shut down production or delay deliveries. These disruptions can increase costs, disappoint customers, and damage reputations.
How to Prepare & Mitigate Start by mapping your supply chain beyond just your tier-1 vendors—know where your critical materials truly come from. Build flexibility into your operations by diversifying suppliers, maintaining relationships with multiple logistics providers, and holding limited buffer inventory for essential items. Stress-test your operations with scenario planning: what if a port closes, or a critical supplier fails? Adjust contracts to include clear communication and contingency terms. The goal isn’t to eliminate risk entirely, but to create options and visibility so you can adapt quickly when disruptions occur.

Risk 3: Disinformation Spread
Disinformation is no longer confined to politics—it increasingly threatens businesses too. False or misleading claims can spread quickly across social media, eroding brand reputation, shaking investor confidence, and confusing employees or customers. In a crisis, disinformation often fills the information vacuum before organizations can get their messages out, complicating an already challenging response.
How to Prepare & Mitigate
The first line of defense is monitoring: know what’s being said about your organization across news, forums, and social platforms. Build credibility with your stakeholders ahead of time through transparency, so your communications are more trusted when false narratives emerge. Develop a rapid-response playbook that defines who responds, what channels to use, and how to quickly correct misinformation. Train employees so they don’t unintentionally amplify false claims. Finally, understand your legal and platform options—sometimes harmful content can be challenged or removed.

Philanthropy In Action
At TRI, we know that strong communities aren’t built by plans alone but by the compassion and care we show one another in times of need. That’s why philanthropy is at the heart of our mission. We believe philanthropy bolsters a community’s resilience on a micro and macro level. This fuels our steadfast commitment to supporting resiliency-focused organizations around the world.
This year, we’re honored to continue supporting The Resilient Foundation, a women-led, community-driven nonprofit based in rural India. The Resilient Foundation empowers vulnerable communities through education and resilience-building programs worldwide. Editor’s Note
Last Friday marked a very special milestone for TRI as we opened our third office—right in my hometown of Redding, California. The day was filled with gratitude and joy, especially as I reconnected with friends from my elementary school days and shared this new chapter with the community that raised me.
Redding is where I first learned the true meaning of resilience, community, and connection—values that continue to guide everything we do at The Resiliency Initiative. Opening this office feels like coming full circle, and I’m excited for the impact we’ll create together from this new home.
